My son, is taking up culinary arts in St. Benilde and baked a chocolate cake for me last Mother’s Day. It was a lovely!!
days before my monthly cycle, i would feel gloomy for no reason but sweets bring back color to my day. that includes yummy cake desserts =)
It was Saturday and my brothers and I hadn’t talked about what to do on Mother’s Day, which was the next day. So I bought a chocolate cake from Shell and thought about cooking some pasta and my mom’s special beefsteak for lunch the next day. But the then I found out that my brothers already ordered food and that my chocolate cake was the unexpected dessert! Talk about coincidental coordination. We had a blast with the cake especially when we paired it with the Selecta designer ice cream series. Yum!!!
Any of our family celebration wouldn’t be complete without a cake in it. And having a sweet-tooth, I am always in charge of buying one…endless occasions like birthdays, Christmas, christening, mom’s and dad’s day–always makes our bonding moments sweeter and tighter all throughout the year. I love it!
When my son was born via emergency Caesarean section almost 2 years ago, it was definitely a moment for celebration. One friend and his pregnant partner brought us a cake, and I was delighted to find out it was considered part of the “liquid” (aka easily digestible) diet allowed 24 hours after giving birth. When all the well-wishers had gone home, I ate a large portion of the cake straight from the box with a plastic fork. It was the perfect reward for the stress of childbirth.
I was depressed since a patient died on my shift last Monday. I knew that his time is running out but still his death was so sudden and unexpected. I was frustrated and disappointed with how the things were handled by the doctors. After my duty, I don’t want to do anything except to forget just what happened. When I got home around 6pm, I realized that I haven’t taken anything since 6am. I didn’t have the appetite but seeing a piece of cake in our ref made me change my mind. It didn’t lessen any bad feeling I have but somehow it put a little smile on my sad face.
For my birthday last year, I didn’t expect a big celebration. I usually just go out to dinner with my sisters. This was my first birthday with my boyfriend, and he surprised me with a homemade cake! (My thanks also to his mom and sister who I’m sure helped him, hehe; they run a business designing awesome cakes) It was blue (my favorite color) with a makeshift “stage” and moving lights, and on it was a doll figure with a mic stand (I’m a frustrated singer). It looked so great, I loved it!
sweets for my sweets…a line that stands on its own, every sunday, my boyfriend and i always hears mass at 6pm. he would pick me up at our house and as he waits for me to get ready i always make sure i let him eat first his favorite turtle pie…no matter how long he waits for me, as long as i know he is enjoying his turtle pie, our sunday date with cake and mass will always be looked forward to. i just love my mahal…and he loves me and the turtle pie back.
I was courting this girl and she live almost province distance. This one day came and it will be my very first time to meet her parents especially her mom. Of course, i already thought of bringing her flowers but what about for the family. Yes, a CAKE to break the ice. I was in a hurry already since i am on a grave yard shift and need to find a baKE shop. There it was, Claudette’s at Valero. Bought the Tiramisu since i’m not sure of the other offering. To cut the story short, i made a very good first impression to her family and from then on, am always welcome in their crib.
My niece is 15, and as most teenagers, she’s going thru her rebellious stage. She and her mom went thru a rough patch a while back when she went to a party she wasn’t allowed to go to with her boyfriend that she wasn’t even allowed to have yet. Neefless to say, her mom was very mad at her and wouldn’t speak to her for days. That weekend, she came to me and asked me to help her bake a cake & cookies for her mom to help her say sorry for what she’s done. That, along with cleaning up their house and doing other chores helped melt her mom’s frostiness towards her.
They are okay now, BUT she still wasn’t allowed to have a boyfriend yet.
A simple life pursuits simple pleasures. I’m chronicling our happiest family moments, and so far it usually involves a sweet treat or two. Would this delectable slice of heaven be an addition-turned-addiction for us? If I were to lie I’d say “I hope not”, but then refusing sweets isn’t really a very dela cruz thing to do.
My boyfriend (now a husband) came from a not so wealthy family. He has to work in order to finish school. Came his 30th birthday, I surprised him with a cake. He was teary eyed since it was his first birthday cake ever!!! I didn’t know about it and was so overcome with emotion that something so usual to some of us would be a first time for a 30 year old.
Now that we have a daughter (6 months), we always celebrate her “monthly” birthdays with a cake. We would let her little fist get hold of the cake and would feel her delight as she watches and feels the cold icing melt in her hands.
My 4 year old came home after school yesterday with a box of chocolate cake. To my surprise he gave it to me and said they had their cooking class and he made the cake with her teacher to give it as a present to his daddy since tomorrow is Father’s day. When my husband came home we ate the cake and we are so happy since the cake was delicious and he personally designed it.
i was totally deprived to eat anything that is sweet during my childhood because of my recurring tonsilitis and during ocassions i would envy my cousins eating delectable cakes…not until my 7th birthday i got my first slice and from then on nobody can’t stop me now from stuffing myself with equally sinful chocolate cakes. such an addiction
I claimed my free slice of cake a few weeks ago – yummy! Dolly Sin is really one of Claudette’s best. But of course one can’t just have one slice of cake, so I had to buy a few more
Thanks, HitABargain!
Thanks for the chocolate cake!!!! yummy!!!
It is only my third week at my work. My birthday is on Aug 14. I never thought that they would knew. Considering that it is a government agency I never thought that they would really care if its someone’s birthday but I was wrong. My boss called me up and said that he has an urgent assignment for me and I should go to his office immediately, when I entered, all the employees were there singing happy birthday with a cheese caramel cake at the table… it was so heart warming…;,)
